The Kuruom School of Advanced Sciences (KSAS), Lucknow, in collaboration with INADS World Campus (USA), successfully hosted the four-day international workshop “Exploring Buddhist Philosophy and Its Responses to War and Violence” from June 10–13, 2026.
Bringing together distinguished scholars, researchers, educators, and students from across India and around the world, the workshop examined one of humanity’s most urgent questions: How can ancient Buddhist wisdom help address modern challenges such as war, violence, social division, and psychological suffering?
Throughout the event, participants explored how timeless Buddhist teachings on compassion, mindfulness, ethics, and wisdom can contribute to building more peaceful societies while offering practical insights for education, governance, environmental stewardship, mental health, and conflict resolution.
The workshop opened with an inspiring keynote by Prof. Bimalendra Kumar, Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at Banaras Hindu University, who emphasized that lasting peace begins not through political agreements alone, but through transformation of the human mind.
Drawing upon the Buddhist canon, he explained that greed, hatred, ignorance, attachment, and ego remain the fundamental causes of violence and conflict.
“Buddhism does not simply declare that violence is wrong—it transforms the way we think so that we no longer wish to be violent. By cultivating kindness, wisdom, and mindfulness, we create peace that begins within ourselves and naturally extends to society.”
His address set the tone for four days of thoughtful dialogue and scholarly exchange.
Leading academics from some of India’s premier universities contributed lectures and discussions that demonstrated the continuing relevance of Buddhist philosophy in today’s world.
